Youth jailed, fined Tk 2 lakh for job fraudulence
A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday awarded a youth one year's imprisonment and fined him Tk 2 lakh for cheating jobseekers by offering fake job vacancies through newspaper ads.
The arrested Mohammad Abul Barek Biswas, 35, of Rajbari, was busted from the city's Tikatuli after 17 victimised youths of Kushtia lodged complaints with Rab, said Rab's Executive Magistrate AHM Anwar Pasha, leading the court around 1:00pm.
According to one victim Nazrul Islam, an ad offering jobs at a “Banglalink Tower” was published in a national daily on April 21 with only a cellphone number for contact.
After the youths called in the number, they were asked to send money at different times by courier service for, as claimed by the phone call receiver, various requirements.
The youths ended up sending Tk 4,700. At one point they were sent appointment letters but were asked for more money. This is when they realised that they were being cheated and lodged the complaints, he said.
