Tributes paid to Aug 21 attack victims
President Zillur Rahman yesterday attended a milad and doa mahfil held at Bangabhaban Jam-e-Masjid after Zohr prayer in memory of the people lost in the August 21 grenade attack in 2004.
His wife Ivy Rahman, also an Awami League leader, and 23 others were killed in the massacre that occurred while the incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was addressing a party rally in the city's Bangabandhu Avenue on the day.
Hasina, the opposition leader then, and other top AL leaders narrowly escaped the attack. Some 500 others were also injured with scores of them crippled for life.
A munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the victims was offered.
Also, blessings were sought for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members, who were assassinated on August 15, 1975.
Earlier, the president in a message paid tributes to the August 21 victims, terming the heinous incident another `black chapter' in the country's national political history.
