Anna Hazare caps: All the rage
Leading Indian anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has caught the imagination of the country and the fashion world is no exception.
The trendiest piece of attire at the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai is Gandhi caps declaring “I Am Anna Hazare”, so named after the 73-year-old on hunger strike in New Delhi to press for a strong anti-corruption law.
Reports from across India say Gandhi caps are selling like hot cakes and are flying off the shelves of shops as hundreds of people, mostly youth, hit the streets in major Indian cities to express solidarity with Hazare's campaign.
The third day of the Fashion Week Winter-Festive collection saw several guests and models supporting anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare in his fight against corruption.
“I am supporting Anna Hazare and thought of distributing Gandhi caps at Lakme Fashion Week. With this, everyone across the world would come to know about the issue he is fighting for and hence more support would pour in,” Viren Shah, president of the Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association, said.
Guests at the Lakme Fashion Week put on Gandhi caps, while models were seen holding them in their hands.
Designer duo Parvesh-Jai has also been supporting Hazare by wearing a black ribbon and a badge that says “I Am Anna”.
“I have been wearing a black ribbon and the badge for the last two days. I find it absurd that Anna was arrested... as what he is doing is for the betterment of the country,” Parvesh said.
“I am supporting Anna. I hope people will become aware about the issue and support him,” Jai said.
