Resignation demanded
Leaders of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) yesterday demanded resignation of the communications minister and shipping minister “responsible for the frail condition of transportation in the country”.
They were speaking at a human chain in the city's Shantinagar intersection organised by CPB Shantinagar unit.
They also demanded punishment for dishonest and corrupt bureaucrats and engineers of these sectors, says a press release.
In another human chain in front of the city's Jatiya Press Club, they protested the government's restriction on rickshaws from plying different city road, saying this decision increased people's sufferings.
They also said the government failed to repair roads and highways, increasing risk of road accidents and called for immediate steps in this regard.
They expressed concern over the recent deaths of a good number of people in road accidents, saying there is no safety and guarantee for secure movement of people.
Ruhin Hossen Prince, Dr Lenin Chowdhury, journalist Asish Kumar Dey and Sadequr Rahman Shamim spoke at the programme.
