Girl, mother die in road accident
Three people, including a minor girl and her mother, were killed and 13 others injured in road accidents in Chittagong and Sirajganj yesterday.
Our staff correspondent from Ctg reports: A woman and her daughter died on the spot in a head-on collision between two CNG-run auto-rickshaws on Hathazari-Bhatiari link road in Hathazari upazila yesterday.
The deceased are Lakshmi Rani, 35, and her daughter Kali Rani, 9, of South Kattali under Pahartali Police Station.
Snigdha Rani, 12, another daughter of Lakshmi, was injured critically in the accident. She was sent to Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Chittagong.
The correspondent adds: Twelve passengers were wounded as a bus plunged into a Dhaka-Chittagong highway-side ditch in Sitakunda upazila yesterday.
Seven of the injured were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital while the others received primary treatment at Kumira Health Complex.
Witnesses said the accident occurred as the driver lost control over the wheel while trying to overtake another vehicle at Bara Kumira Bazar on the highway.
Our Sirajganj correspondent says: A female union parishad (UP) member from Tarash upazila died after falling from a moving motorcycle Sunday night.
The victim, Hafiza Khatun, 32, was an elected representative from ward no-1 of Baruhaash union.
Tarash police said Hafiza was riding home on a rented motorbike around 8:00pm. Seated behind the motorcyclist, she suddenly fell off and suffered serious head wounds. Hafiza died in the upazila health complex soon after locals took her there.
The motorcyclist was not found available for contact.
