Make deals public or face hartal
The opposition BNP yesterday urged the government to make public in advance the agreements to be signed with India, otherwise the party will call hartal during the Indian prime minister's visit next month.
BNP's outspoken leader Goyeshwar Chandra Roy sounded the warning while addressing a human chain in front of Jatiya Press Club in the city.
Muktijuddher Projonmo organised the event protesting the recent filing of a case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia by Anti-corruption Commission and the warrant of arrest against BNP Senior Vice-chairman Tarique Rahman in a money laundering case.
Goyeshwar, standing committee member of BNP, said if the agreements with India are not published, they might be forced to call hartal on those days the Indian prime minister will be staying in Bangladesh. The BNP leader said people have the rights to "accept or reject the secret deals".
Addressing another human chain on the same issue at the same venue yesterday, BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said the ruling party is busy protecting its chair instead of protecting the interest of people.
Khaleda-Tarique Rahman Mukti Parisahd organised the human chain.
