Commerce minister gives solution to price hike of essentials (August 5, 2011)
The minister's comment is very unfortunate. Only an irresponsible man can utter such a word.

70 percent kids are suffering from malnutrition in the country and still he wants the kids to go hungry. I am absolutely sure his plate always remains full. What a minister!
Mamun Abdullah
I am a bit confused why the minister suddenly gave such an inhuman advice while many people are eating less than 1800 calories in lieu of 2200. The new perception of the present government probably is either to change our food habit or to make food surplus in future. Why should mass people suffer? It clearly indicates the government's failure to control market price, ensure adequate supply of food and manage distribution. The government should try to find out all hidden causes of price hike instead of putting the ball on the court of mass people.

What a wonderful suggestion! It reminds us a comment of Khawaja Nazimuddin during Pakistan period who suggested Bengali people to eat polao instead of rice at food crisis.
It is ridiculous and Faruk Khan must resign for his derisive comment.

Thank God that the minister asked the mass people to eat less but did not say anything about food intake of his class nor offered any advice to cut down the government expenses, particularly the expenses of PM's foreign trips. The minister should use force to stop adulteration of food and price hike created by the greedy businessmen.

We do not expect such comment from anyone of the government body. The government should create healthy competition among the businessmen and monitor the market strongly. My earnest request to the Commerce Minister -update us with correct statistics mentioning what percent of Bangladeshis get food properly?
Shafiq Haidere
Not only in the case of adulteration of food but also in every sector the government is showing helplessness. Continuous failure of the government will ultimately take it to a lower level.

Rich amassed their richness through corruption which might be one reason for price hike, as they have more ability comparing mass people. On the contrary, more than 80 percent people cannot afford a balanced diet. How can the minister direct them to eat less? Please control market and let us have the balanced diet at least twice a day.

I really appreciate the minister's plea regarding our food consumption habits in the month of Ramadan. We should consume less in this month, but we consume much more in this month than the other months. This is because we are ignorant of the core message of Ramadan.
Manobota Ahmed
I fully agree with the commerce minister. Some people in Bangladesh eat too much, they become fat and suffer from diabetes and high blood pressure. Particularly, food grain intake is extremely high. Sugar is very bad for health whereas sugar intake increases in this month. All fried items contain high cholesterol whereas people take them more and consumption of soybean oil also increases. The government should provide education on healthy food habit and lifestyle among the mass people.
