Two Krishna idols stolen from Khulna Museum
Two out of four idols of Lord Krishna have been missing from Khulna Museum since Sunday night.
One of the missing idols is 49 centimetre in height while height of the other is 28.5 centimetre.
Both idols are made of rare kind of black stone, said regional director Md Shihabuddin Akbar of Khulna divisional office of the Archaeological Department.
Glass panes of the showcase kept on the first floor were found broken when officials and employees came to the office on Monday morning.
“The stolen idols are rare kind of antiques. So, I have taken serious view of this incident that has occurred for the first time in the history of well guarded Khulna Museum,” the regional director said.
He further said that he had collected these rare idols from Bagerhat in 1998 and later preserved in the well fortified museum.
A case was filed with with Sonadanga Police Station on Monday, naming none as accused. Terming the incident mysterious, Officer-in-Charge SM Shawkat Hossain said they have started investigation into the incident.
Seven security guards, including three Ansars, were taken to custody suspecting their involvement in the theft, said Sub-Inspector Moniruzzaman, also the investigation officer of the case.
Seventeen security guards, including nine Ansars, remain on duty by rotation at the museum.
