Arrest warrants against ex-AL lawmaker Helaluddin, his wife
A Dhaka court yesterday issued arrest warrants against former Awami League lawmaker Sheikh Helalauddin and his wife Rupa Chowdhury in connection with a case filed for submitting false wealth statements and amassing huge assets through illegal means.
After scrutinising the case docket and other relevant documents, Judge Mohammad Azizul Haque of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court passed the order against the couple.
The order came following a plea by the investigation officer (IO) of the case for issuance of arrest warrants against them and an order to attach their properties.
The court fixed January 22 as the date for next hearing of the case and directed the authorities concerned to submit a report on the order after implementing it.
On January 15, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director Syed Ahmed, who is the investigation officer (IO), submitted the charge sheet against them to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, showing 23 people as prosecution witnesses.
On September 24 last year, ACC Deputy Director Manzur Ahmed filed the case with Ramna Police Station on charges of concealing Tk 7.60 crore in their wealth statements and amassing Tk 16.22 crore through illegal means.
