Abolish BCS quota
It has been learned from your paper (07.01.08) that the quota system in recruitment of cadre services will remain unchanged. It is frustrating news for the nation. A nation cannot be developed neglecting the meritorious. As a developing nation, brain drain is eating into the vitals of the nation for which the quota system is one of the main reasons. A number of changes in the selection system for the BCS exams are under process, which is definitely appreciable.
We expected that the present CTG would take necessary steps to restructure the quota system, which is not only irrational but also obsolete and illogical. Consensus has already been reached among the conscious people that the discriminatory quota system should be abolished. It has lost its importance over the passage of time. Much has been written against the quota system over the years. We simply can say that it cannot be rational on any ground after 25 years of its inception. Quota system which was introduced to promote backward sections of society requires revising to cope with the changing needs. Many meritorious students are being deprived of a cadre job due to the quota system which is also degrading the quality of the civil service. Quota system also provides scope of corruption in the process of recruitment. Isn't the low quality of our civil service the result of our recruitment system? It is believed that the inconsistent quota system is directly responsible for it.
We think at least the cadre service should be kept beyond any quota system for the sake of the nation. So, time has come to think about it. We strongly urge the PSC as well as the government to abolish the unfair quota system for establishing a merit based BCS recruitment process.
