2 killed as train hits covered van
Two people were killed when an inter district express train rammed into a van at the Kalin Bazar rail crossing on the Dhaka-Mymensingh rail route yesterday morning.
The dead were identified as Tuhin, 32, driver of the covered van belonging to Ranata Pharmaceutical Company and Abdul Khaleque, 50, both employees of Ranata Pharmaceutical Company
Railway sources said, the accident occurred around 11 am when the Bahadurabad Ghat bound inter-district express train 'Teesta' from Dhaka was crossing the Kalin Bazar rail crossing at Trishal. It ran into the covered van crossing the same track at the time.
The collision left the driver of van dead on the spot and its passenger Abul Khaleque critically injured.
Abdul later died at the Community Based Medical college Hospital (CBMC, in Chunkhi in sadar upazila.
Sources said the van belonging to Ranata Pharmaceuticals, coming from Mymensingh, was destined for Kabir Bazar to sell medicine.
Local police and local railway officials later visited the spot. Police recovered the dead bodies and sent them to Mymensingh Medical college Hospital (MMCH) morgue for autopsy.
Tuhin was the son of one Hazrat Mondol of village Baltoli in Sadar upazila of Comilla and Abdul Khaleque was the son of late Abdul Kader also from Comilla.
