Oil, gas committee announces protest programme
National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Port yesterday announced a five month-long protest programme to press home its seven-point demand to protect the country's natural and mineral resources.
They announced the events at a press conference at Mukti Bhaban in the city.
The programmes include countrywide mass campaign from July 27 to 31, the committee's central representative meeting on August 19 and a countrywide rally in remembrance of Phulbari tragedy on August 26.
Other programmes are a road march from Dhaka to Chittagong from September 24 to 26, a long march from Dhaka to Sunetra gas field in Sunamganj of Netrakona from October 22 to 25 and a grand rally in Dhaka on November 26.
The seven-point demand include cancellation of Production Sharing Contract (PSC) 2008 and the agreement with ConocoPhillips, forming a national committee by implementing the Phulbari agreement and banning export of mineral resources.
