The Pepsi Media Cricket Tourna-ment will begin today at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium with 24 teams taking part in the popular event of journalists.
Eight matches will be played on the opening day of the six-a-side limited-overs competition from 9.30am.
The Daily Star, one of the favourites and top-seed in Group G, will face Inqilab in their first match.
The teams -- 15 daily newspapers, two news agencies and seven TV channels -- are spilt into eight groups with only the group champions advancing to the knockout phase -- the quarterfinals, informed the officials of Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA), organisers of the meet, yesterday at a press briefing.
BSJA president Manzurul Haque, general secretary Syed Mamun, tournament committee chairman Kamalur Rahman and secretary Raihan Al Mughni were present.
Bangladesh Olympic Association's deputy secretary-general Ishtiaque Ahmed Curren will inaugurate the meet as chief guest. Khurshid Irfan Chowdhury, general manager of sponsors Transcom Beverages, will be present as special guest.
