Agitation on at RU for release of students
After attending classes, students with mouths covered with black cloths, marched Rajshahi University (RU) campus streets, held rallies and staged sit-in demanding release of 10 students convicted in the DGFI vehicle torching case.
They are also demanding withdrawal of the case against the students, filed by RU authorities for their alleged involvement in incidents of violent on the campus on August 23, and release of four Dhaka University teachers.
The students, under the banner of 'Students Against Repression' (SAR), also formed a human chain in front of Central Library to press the demands.
At the rallies, the students called upon RU authorities to withdraw the case and threatened of tougher agitation from today, including token strike for non-compliance.
They also launched a signature campaign.
Students of Fine Arts department yesterday articulated their demand for release of the 10 students by writing comments and drawing cartoons on walls.
A large number of policemen were deployed on the campus to avert any untoward incident.
