Students of the Asian University for Women (AUW) yesterday demonstrated on the campus demanding immediate withdrawal of expulsion of their 12 fellows.
More than 100 students staged a sit-in in front of the university main gate to press the demand and termed the expulsion an "unlawful action".
The university authority on June 12 expelled the students, including nine Bangladeshis, two Sri Lankans, and one Indian, for poor academic performance in the second semester.
Ismat Jahan Nishu, a student of Environmental Science, said she was not given any written warning before the decision of expulsion was taken against her.
"I was just told a few weeks before my second semester examination that if I fail to carry over 76 marks in each subject, severe action would be taken against me. When asked about the severe action, the authority told me it would be nothing serious", she said.
Mary J Sansalone, vice-chancellor of the university, said the students were expelled due to poor academic performance, and there was no other option but expelling them.
