Urea stock sufficient, says Karim
Agriculture adviser Dr CS Karim yesterday said the government has sufficient stock of urea fertiliser.
"We allocated 28 lakh tones of fertiliser this year against use of 25 lakh tones last year", he told officials at Tangail Circuit House. The adviser also addressed a gathering of farmers at Poujan in Kalihati upazila, where he said there is nothing to be worried about fertiliser.
The government gives Tk 4,000 crore as subsidy on fertiliser every year to keep it within the reach of farmers, he added. The newly recruited 15,000 dealers' representatives are supplying fertilisers to farmers.
He said said the government has targeted to produce extra 10 lakh tones of paddy by planting hybrid seeds on 10 lakh hectares in the country during the current Irri-Boro season to cover the loses caused successive floods and cyclone Sydr.
He advised the farners to use hybrid seeds and Guti urea and other modern technologies in cultivation.
