Medical education
Every morning, when I open the pages of newspapers, I see a number of advertisements of private medical colleges established at different places with exciting and alluring annotations for admission. In the advertisement they mention better educational facilities, rich library, journals, laboratory, well ventilated classrooms, highly qualified teaching staff and many other things…
I am a bit amazed after reading all these fascinating, eye-catching advertisements and sometimes I do not understand what these institutions think about the meaning of quality education, particularly the medical science having its sensitivity and critical learning methods. Many developed countries are still making efforts for ensuring better educational facilities, apparatuses for medical students enabling them to pay more attention to research.
Since many of our public medical colleges do not have adequate qualified experienced teaching staff, good modern facilities for learning and experiments, then what these proliferated private medical colleges are going to teach their students? These colleges have opened job opportunities to the retired teachers of the government medical colleges.
Medical and engineering education is most sophisticated and has been changing day by day with the development of science and technology. Medical education cannot be compared with general education like law, economics, arts etc.
I am not against expansion of medical education and indeed proper educational facilities available nearby would encourage more students to become doctors and the country would be benefited in the long run.
But I would like to urge the government to approve establishment of new medical colleges after ensuring fulfilment of basic requirements like qualified teaching staff, modern hospital facilities, adequate medical apparatuses etc.
