First nat'l wall magazine festival begins
Speakers at the inaugural ceremony of the First National Wall Magazine Festival yesterday underscored the need for organising more of such programmes to provide the children a platform to exercise their creativity and showcase their talents.
Speaking as the chief guest, Prof Zillur Rahman Siddiqui said, “In this mechanised age children are equipped with hi-tech computer and lots of gaming materials but with limited opportunities to exercise creativity and knowledge.”
Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) organised the festival on the Bangla Academy premises in the city for the students at secondary school level.
Prof Zillur said computer is essential but not the whole world for the children and their potentials needs to be tapped, adding that such efforts deserve appreciation.
“We are spending a lot of money in establishing universities but if we spend a little to facilitate a better school education that would help develop some bright students,” he added.
Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), said, “Now-a-days culture is becoming commodity while commercialisation is constantly shrouding our traditions. The festival could pave the way for the birth of future writers.”
“Such programmes might help the children harness their potentials and develop themselves as good citizens and good leaders as well,” said Roushan Jahan, member of ASK, while presiding over the programme.
ASK Deputy Director Motahar Akhand delivered the inaugural address while Syed Mohammad Shahed, vice chancellor, World University, spoke on the occasion.
