BNP leaders term it 'unusual'
Two BNP leaders yesterday termed "unusual" the invitation to Indian Army Chief General Vijay Kumar Singh to take salute at the passing out ceremony of Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) as the chief guest.
They also urged the Indian Army chief not to attend the ceremony saying Vijay Kumar was invited to the event to gain "ill political motive."
BNP standing committee member ASM Hannan Shah said the Indian Army chief has been brought to Bangladesh to gain political interest.
There is no instance in the country's history that a foreign army chief has taken salute in any passing out parade of BMA cadets. "It's unusual," said Hannan at a discussion at Mohakhali Community Centre in the city.
BNP Vice Chairman Altaf Hossain Chowdhury said, "I did not see in my 35 years' career any such instance of reviewing of passing out parade of cadets by a foreign army chief in India or Pakistan."
