Floodlights defer Jamal, Russel clash
Bangladesh Football Federation shifted yesterday's scheduled Bangladesh League fixture between Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Sheikh Russel KC to today due to failure of the floodlight at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
The crucial match of the league was initially scheduled for a 4:15pm start but the football's governing body deferred it to 8:00pm for the dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the opposition. However, the floodlights failed to work, postponing the match for the day.
With this shift, all the remaining matches of the league at the BNS have been bodily shitted, however the matches outside Dhaka remain unchanged.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi lead the league table with 41 points from 18 games, one point ahead of second-placed Muktijoddha Sangsad while Sheikh Russel have 38 points from 18 matches.
A win against Sheikh Russel will give Sheikh Jamal an edge in their bid to win the fourth edition of professional league as they only mid-table sides like Rahmatganj, Mohammedan and Brothers Union left to face.
On the other hand, a win for Sheikh Russel will also put them in serious contention, and at the same time it will benefit Muktijoddha too who have wobbled a bit lately in their own bid after leading the table for most of the part.
