Latvia awaits crunch presidential vote

Latvian lawmakers assembled yesterday for a critical vote on a new term for President Valdis Zatlers, less than a week after he demanded a snap general election to clear out tycoon politicians.
Zatlers' call for "radical action" to end the parliamentary clout of powerful oligarchs has added spice ahead of yesterday's secret ballot, already scheduled before he moved to dissolve parliament.
