One killed, another injured as rivals clash in Ctg
A man was killed and another seriously injured in an attack allegedly by rivals in Hainako Bazar area under Bhujpur Police Station in Chittagong on Saturday evening.
The deceased Ahmad Gani, 40, is secretary of Hainako Bazar Samity and a resident of Dharmapur village under Fatikchari upazila while the injured is his nephew Sirajul Islam, 20.
Sources said Ahmad-led group had a long-standing feud with another group led by Dulal Member over establishing supremacy in the area. After Dulal's death, his brother Anisul Islam took charge seven months ago.
After both groups clashed on April 24, Anisul filed a case accusing 12 persons in this connection with Bhujpur Police Station on April 26, said Md Ismail, officer-in-charge of Bhujpur Police Station yesterday.
After getting anticipatory bail, Ahmad returned a few days ago. Anisul's group attacked the victims on their way to Hainako Bazar, slaughtering Ahmad and hacking Sirajul with a machete, he said.
Locals sent them to Feni Sadar Hospital where doctors declared Ahmad dead around 8:30pm while Sirajul was undergoing treatment.
Hearing the news, Ahmad's followers set fire to 15 houses and shops in the bazar. Police imposed Section-144 in the area and brought the situation under control.
Additional Police Super, Chittagong Mokhter Hossain said, "We identified and arrested four of the criminals. We are conducting drives to nab the rest."
