Birth anniversary of Santosh Gupta today
Today is the 83rd birth anniversary of Santosh Gupta, a veteran journalist, columnist and freedom fighter, says a press release.
Born in village Runsi, Jhalakathi, on January 9, 1925, he was the senior assistant editor of the daily Sangbad.
Santosh Gupta joined the IG (Prison) office in Kolkata before entering journalism in 1957. He was also jailed several times for a total of about 12 years for his involvement with the communist party.
He started his journalism career in the daily Azad. Later, he joined the Sangbad and worked with the newspaper for about 32 years.
His post-editorials under his pen-name Aniruddha made him one of the most popular journalists.
Santosh Gupta was also a poet and has dozens of literary works to his credit. He earned many accolades and awards, including Ekushey Award (1997), Bangabandhu Award (1985), Sher-e-Bangla Award, Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Memorial Award, Kazi Mahbubullah-Zebunnisa Welfare Trust Award and Tarkabagish Award.
