Gano Sangeet Festival in Dinajpur
Artistes of the northern districts gave a soulful performance at a three-day Gano Sangeet Festival here in Dinajpur.
The programme concluded last Saturday.
The Rajshahi and Rangpur regional Gano Sangeet Festival, held at Dinajpur Institute premises, was organised by Bangladesh Gano Sangeet Samannoy Parishad. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy assisted the programme.
Shujeo Shyam, noted music director, inaugurated the festival.
Local lawmaker Iqbalur Rahim was present as chief guest at the inaugural discussion where the speakers emphasised the need of such programmes to expand the cultural horizons of the region. During the Liberation War, Gano Sangeet (inspirational songs) played a key role in boosting the morale of freedom fighters, they said.
In his speech, Shyam said that Gano Sangeet is losing popularity in the country.
Fakir Alamgir, noted artiste and President of Gano Sangeet Samannoy Parishad, chaired the discussion at the inaugural session.
Golam Kuddus and Hasan Arif, vice president and general secretary of Central Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, were present as special guests.
Fakir Alamgir performed several of his famous songs, including "O Sakina Gesos Kina Bhuila Amare".
Artistes of Gano Sangeet Shilpi Sangtha of Pabna; Sargam Sanskritik Samproday of Sirajganj; Udichi of Chapainawabganj and Suhari Sangeet Niketan of Dinajpur performed choruses on the first day of the programme.
Satyen Sen Shilpi Gosthi of Dhaka; Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad of Rajshahi; Gano Shilpi Sangstha; Nilphamari Sanskritik Gosthi; Udichi of Sirajganj and Monimela of Dinajpur performed on Friday.
Gambhira artistes of Chapainawabganj also performed at the programme.
On the concluding day, Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad of Joypurhat; Bogra Udichi; Gano Sangeet Parishad of Rangpur; Udichi of Dinajpur; Naborupi of Dinajpur and Gano Sangeet Shilpi Sangtha of Dinajpur gave performances.
