Child marriage stopped

A 12-year-old girl was saved from an attempted underage marriage at Nabinagar village in Lalpur upazila of Natore district on Friday afternoon as the villagers vehemently protested the bid.
Agitating villagers submitted an allegation to officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalpur Police Station requesting him to stop Akhi Akter, daughter of Akram Ali of the village, from being married off to a 22 year-old youth.
When the OC sent a police team to stop the marriage, the bridegroom and the members of the bridal party including the marriage registrar fled.
