9 highway robbers held, bus seized in Dhamrai
Police yesterday arrested nine armed robbers and seized a bus from Bathuli stand on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Dhamrai police station, Dhaka.
The arrestees are bus driver Faruk Hossain, 22, of Ashulia, helper Samor Chandra Das, 32, of Dohar, Sujon, 20, of Nabinagar, Sohel, 18, of Kaliakoir, Gazipur, Panu, 22, and Sajon, 18, of Rajbari, Sharif, 20, of Shivalaya, Manikganj, Faridul Islam, 23, of Chouhali, Sirajganj and Shakil, 20, of Morelganj, Bagerhat.
When contacted, Saturia police station officer-in-charge (OC) Habibur Rahman said robbers numbering about 16 came to the Akij Textile Mills gate at Golora on board a minibus to commit robbery at around 4:45 am. But they left the place when they came to know about police presence.
While retreating towards Ashulia, the robbers looted two cell phones and Tk 7,500 in cash from two persons, Rafik and Monwar at Golora bus stand in Saturia police station.
Golora police chased the robbers and caught nine of them and seized the bus from Bathuli bus stand in Dhamrai police station in Dhaka.
However, seven others managed to flee.
Later, police recovered Tk 2,000 looted by the robbers, police said.
