Pitha festival at Eden Girls College
Eden Girls College arranged a Pitha festival yesterday at its premises. Culinary expert Keka Ferdousi was the chief guest at the event. Popular TV host Sharmin Lucky and Sylvana Sadia were honorary judges. Professor Yasmin Ahmed, Principal of the College presided over the programme. Part of the proceeds from the festival will be donated to the Sidr victims.
Twenty-five stalls set up by different departments of the college offered varieties of pitha (rice cakes). Apart from the most common ones like bhapa, patishapta, chitoi, malpoa and pakon, several unfamiliar pitha like chandrapuli, mohonbhog, shaj pitha, shundori pakon, roshbora, golap, bibikhana and many more were on display in all their mouth-watering glory.
“It is often said that the tradition of pitha is under threat with the burgeoning popularity of fast food. But the abundance of pitha at this festival assures us that we haven't forgotten our heritage yet,” said Keka Ferdousi.
Juthi Akhter, a participant and member of BNCC, Eden Girls College, said “We started making these pithas from yesterday. We collected recipes from our elders. Students from different districts have their own local recipes which we used for this festival.”
