Depositions of 3 more PWs recorded
A court in Rajshahi yesterday recorded depositions of three more prosecution witnesses (PWs) in the murder case of Prof S Taher Ahmed of Rajshahi University.
They were Masud Rana, Minhajul and Nazrul Islam.
Rajshahi Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal recorded their depositions and what they revealed during cross-examinations by the defence lawyers.
Earlier, the tribunal recorded the depositions of 32 PWs.
Recording of PWs will continue till Thursday and the trial of the case will resume on Sunday.
Proceedings of the trial were suspended on October 7 last year following a refusal by the tribunal to accept the case over an error in a gazette notification.
Earlier, the trial started at the Public Safety Tribunal with the framing of charges against six people including RU teacher Dr Mia Mohammad Mohiuddin and former RU Shibir president Mahbubul Alam Salehi on June 18.
But later on August 20, the tribunal refused to conduct the case citing "unavoidable circumstances".
Dr Taher, a senior professor of geology and mining department, was killed on February 1, 2006 and his body was recovered from a sewer behind his campus residence on February 3.
Three killer-suspects Jahangir, Salam and Nazmul in separate judicial confessions confirmed the involvement of Mohiuddin and Salehi in the murder.
Azimuddin Munshi, father of Jahangir and Salam, is another accused in the case.
