'Protect Osmani Udyan from land grabbers'
A citizens' committee expressed concern over the reluctant attitude of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) towards protecting the Osmani Udyan, a century-old historic park, from land grabbers.
Members of the committee under the banner of 'Movement to protect the land and environment of Osmani Udyan' visited the park yesterday to see its development work and 2.8 acres of land, which a 'vested quarter' is trying to grab.
They urged the DCC and others concerned to take legal action against the land grabbers in order to protect the park, one of the city's green open areas.
They also called on lawyers not to cooperate with the land grabbers in their legal battle.
Vice-president of Bangladesh Paribesh Andolon (Bapa) Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, general secretary Abdul Matin, treasurer Mahidul Haque Khan, joint secretary Zakir Hossein, Ruhin Hossain Prince and Sharif Jamil visited the park. DCC officials were also present at that time.
Osmani Udyan and Suhrawardy Udyan are two breathing spaces in the capital and that no-one can grab any part of the two parks, Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed told reporters.
Ruhin Hossain Prince said a vested quarter is trying to occupy 2.8172 acres of land of Osmani Udyan with forged documents.
