4 killed, houses, crops damaged

At least four people were killed and scores of others injured as nor'wester lashed Pabna, Lalmonirhat, Chuadanga and Jhenidah districts on Monday.
Two people were killed and 40 injured in house collapse in Santhia upazila of Pabna, reports our correspondent.
The deceased are Nuri Khan, 14, daughter of Nuru Khan of village Baoikola, and Md Aftab Mollah, 65, son of Ahmad Mollah of Bhadaliapara village of Karamja union in the upazila.
Shamsur Rahman, UP chairman of Karamja, told this correspondent that a storm lashed Bhadaliapara, Baoikola, Shomasgari, Baratpur, Mongolgram, Dattapara, Pashchim Karamja, Punduria and Shamukdani villages at about 8:00pm.
Nuri died soon after the house collapsed on her while Aftab on way to Santhia upazila health complex, he added.
The nor'wester destroyed over 200 dwelling houses, damaged crops and uprooted a number of trees.
The storm also hit the oil depot of an underconstruction 50mw rental power plant in Bera upazila.
A youth was killed and several hundred houses were damaged as a storm lashed Lalmonirhat and Chuadanga districts Monday evening.
The deceased was identified as Jasim Uddin, 19, a resident of CP School area near Railway office in Lalmonirhat town.
He died as a branch of a tree fell on him during storm at Rail office compound.
Several hundred houses were razed, including Itapota Madrasa and huge standing crops damaged in Mogolhat and Itapota unions in Sadar upazila.
In Chuadanga, nor'wester accompanied by thunderstorm swept four upazilas in the evening damaging boro paddy on hundreds of hectares and uprooting a large number of trees. Scores of houses were also damaged by the storm.
In Jhenidah, lightning killed a young man at Bagutia village under Shailkupa upazila during the storm on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Zakir Hossain, 24, son of Sharafat Hossain of the village, reports our correspondent.
Locals and police said, at around 10.30pm, Zakir went to Bagutia Bazaar to buy sugar. When he was returning home lightning struck him killing on the spot.
Locals found his body in the morning.
