Engr sued for corruption

A corruption case was filed against Executive Engineer of Rangpur Water Development Board (WDB) Shahidul Islam on Sunday.
Contractor Shahadat Hossain brought an allegation of bribery against the executive engineer four days after Shahidul had lodged an attempt to murder case with the same police station against Apple, Firoz Kowsar Mamun and Jadu.
Shahadat in his case alleged that the executive engineer took Tk 30,000 in bribe from him to pay the bill of a construction work under the department.
He claimed that he had an audio record of the conversation between him and the executive engineer regarding the bribe. The officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station on Sunday recorded the case.
A police officer at Kotwali police station on condition of anonymity told this correspondent that an influential Awami League leader of the district unit forced police to accept the case against the executive engineer.
Contacted, Shahidul Islam alleged that Apple, Mamun and Jadu attacked him four days ago when he was returning home from the office.
"I was narrowly saved but they damaged my jeep," he said.
He said, they attacked him as he refused to treat their illegal request to make payment of a construction work before its completion.
"I have lodged a case with Rangpur Kotwali Police Station in this connection,” he said.
Officer-in-charge of the police station Haider Ali Mollah said police have taken the allegations seriously. The charges against the executive engineer would be investigated by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), he added.
