D-day for Rafiqul

The Rafiqul Alam-led national selection committee will be on tenterhooks today as a meeting of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) directors will decide their future.
A call will be made on the three-member committee that also includes former national captain Akram Khan and former opener Zahid Razzaque Masum as their contract with the board expires on April 30.
"There will be discussions on the selection panel," confirmed BCB CEO Manzur Ahmed yesterday. He also said that the meeting will also hold talks on regional cricket; an issue that has still remained in the drawing board with no real headway being made to literally strengthen cricket organisation across the country.
Besides, the board CEO also confirmed that the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2011 World Cup is expected to submit their financial report.
Rafiqul Alam has been holding the hot seat for three and a half years and there is a strong possibility for him to face the same fate as Australian coach Jamie Siddons, whose contract was not renewed by the board after the World Cup.
If the existing selection panel is not continued with, the process of appointing a new one will be decided and according to Manzur, that will also be discussed during the meeting.
"It is all in the surface and everyone will share their opinion on the matter," said Manzur.
According to the BCB constitution, the CEO is equipped to set the selection committee and give it to the board for approval. Manzur however said that things haven't moved in that direction as it is still not decided whether the current panel will be kept or not.
Among the other issues to be discussed is also the one involving the Tigers fielding coach Julien Fountain.
"The BCB will be going for new advertisements for all coaches and those who are here are eligible to apply," stated Manzur, adding that talks with Fountain is still not complete.
