Road crashes kill 10, injure 56

Ten people were killed and 56 others injured in separate road accidents in Sirajganj, Munshiganj and Faridpur yesterday.
UNB from Chuadanga reports: At least five passengers were killed and 50 others injured as a bus from the Mujibnagar public meeting skidded off the road and fell into a roadside ditch at Kuralgachhi in Damurhuda upazila yesterday.
The deceased are Anwar Hossain, 40, Ashraf Ali, 38, Rashedul Islam, 36, Rezaul Karim, 45, and Sanwar Hossain, 23. They were all residents of Bagdanga village of Maheshpur, Jhenidah district returning home after attending the public meeting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasain at Mujibnagar.
Sajjad Hossain, witness of the tragic accident, told the news agency that the Darshana-bound bus from Mujibnagar met with the fatal accident as the driver in his bid to save a goat on his way lost control over the steering and fell into the ditch. Three persons died inside the twisted vehicle.
About 50 passengers of the ill-fated bus were injured. Of them, two died on way or in the hospital and health complex.
Shahidul Islam, a survivor, told the news agency that about 100 people traveled in the bus to Mujibnagar for attending the prime minister's public meeting under the leadership of Shahidul Alam Khan MP of Jhenidah-3. After the meeting they were returning in the same bus.
Locals, Fire Brigade and police teams were engaged in rescue operation.
Our correspondent from Sirajganj adds: Three people were killed and five others injured as a truck hit two human haulers on Nagarbari-Bogra highway at Ullapara upazila in Sirajganj yesterday.
The deceased are Hafizul Islam, 27, Ranjit Haldar, 55, of Borohor village and Joydev Haldar, 35, of Purbadabila village of the same upazila.
The injured are admitted to Ullapara Upazila Health Complex.
Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ullapara Police Station, said the accident took place when a human hauler, locally known as Bhutbhuti, hit another human hauler, locally known as nosimon, at Boalia village and soon after the collision, a speedy truck hit the bhutbhuti, leaving three people dead on the spot.
Our correspondent from Munshiganj says: A woman was killed and her baby boy was injured in a road accident in Kachuamora area of Sirajdikhan upazila of the district yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Asma Begum, 32.
Jakir Hossain, sub-inspector of Sirajdikhan Police Station, said the accident took place near Dhaleswary second bridge when a Mawa-bound bus hit pedestrians Asma and her two and half years old boy Hasem, leaving them critically injured.
They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Asma succumbed to her injuries around 3:00pm.
Our correspondent from Faridpur adds: One person was killed in a road accident in front of Arogya Sadan Hospital of Faridpur town yesterday.
The deceased is identified as Soleman Matubbar, 60, of Rajoir of Madaripur.
Police said the accident occurred when a speeding truck ran over the man while he was crossing the road to get treatment for her daughter at the hospital.
