Costume contest for children to mark Sisimpur Day


'Jemon Khushi Temon Shajo' (costume contest) for children, along with a discussion, cultural function and prize giving programme were held in Tangail recently.
The events were held at Tangail Shishu Academy auditorium to mark Sisimpur Day (April 12), under the Sisimpur Outreach Project, implemented by the Ministry for Women and Children's Affairs and Bangladesh Shishu Academy.
A total of 85 students of different educational institutions of the town participated in the costume competition in 'Ka' (Nursery to Class II), 'Kha' (Class III to V) and 'Ga' (Class VI to VIII) categories.
The young participants in a fancy dress competition took on the attire of a range of characters, including snake charmers, rural housewives, freedom fighters, fisher women, hill women, farmers and street vendors.
A cultural function was held at the same venue where children of the Shishu Academy performed songs, dances and recited poetry.
Chief guest of the function, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Tangail Mahbubul Alam; special guests Abdul Malek and Ashrafuzzaman spoke at the discussion.
Speakers at the discussion said that the "Sisimpur" serial is playing a big role in the primary education sector in Bangladesh, specifically boosting children's social, emotional and linguistic skills, while helping them develop confidence, along with literacy impacting on areas such as mathematics, science, environment and health.
The guests later handed prizes and certificates among winners of the 'Jemon Khushi Temon Shajo' competition.
