Father, daughter shot dead in Rangamati

A member of reformist group of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) and his two- year-old daughter were shot dead by some unidentified men at Kadamtali village in Baghaichhari upazila of the district early yesterday.
The dead are Chijimoni Chakma, 32, and his daughter Arkomoni Chakma of the village, some twenty kilometres off the upazila headquarters.
A group at around 1:00am knocked on the door of Chijimoni's house. As no one opened the door from inside, the criminals broke it open and entered the room, police sources said. The gang sprayed bullets leaving Chijimoni and his daughter dead on the spot.
The criminals then fled the scene.
Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital yesterday for autopsy, said Nayeem Uddin, officer in-charge (OC) of Baghaichhari Police Station.
The motive behind the killings could not be known and nobody turned up to file a complaint, the OC added.
Ratna Chakma, victim's wife, told local journalists that she could not identify the criminals. However, she suspected that her husband's opponent group might have killed him.
