Bashundhara Director Murder

Next hearing on April 19

A Dhaka court yesterday recorded statement of a prosecution witness in connection with Humayun Kabir Sabbir murder case against Shafiyat Sobhan Sanvir, son of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan Shah Alam, and four others.
Judge Mohammad Rezaul Islam of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 recorded statement of Shafiqul Islam, a security guard of Sanvir, and later was cross-examined by defence lawyers.
The court fixed April 19 for the next hearing.
Earlier on March 3, Sabbir's brother-in-law ASM Asif, complainant of the case, gave his deposition before the same court and was later cross-examined on behalf of the accused.
Shafiqul, in his deposition, said police made an inquest report of the victim in his presence. Police also seized several portraits of Bashundhara Group family members and bear cans from the house where Sabbir's body was found. Police then made a seizure list where he put his signature.
Shamsuddin Ahmed, a director of Bashundhara Group, and Sanvir's bodyguard Khairul Hassan Uzzal, now on bail, were present during yesterday's hearing.
Humayun Kabir Sabbir, a director of Bashundhara Telecommunications Network Ltd, was brutally killed on July 5, 2006.
Sanvir and two guards of Bashundhara Group, Nure Alam and Humayun Kabir, are absconding since the case was filed.
