Rapist jailed for life

A rapist was jailed for life in Dinajpur while bail prayer of another rejected in Satkhira yesterday.
A Dinajpur court yesterday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment and fined Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer more one year in jail for raping a 10-year-old girl.
Convict Shahadat Ali, 30, is son of Jobed Ali, village Kochnabahar of Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur, reports our correspondent.
MA Nur, judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Court, delivered the verdict in presence of the accused at a crowded courtroom.
According to the prosecution, Shahadat took the 10-year-old daughter of Abdur Rashid in June 15, 2009 to a crop field near her house and raped her. Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the spot and later took her to Chriribandar health complex.
Shahadat, however, managed to flee the scene.
Next day, Abdur Rashid filed a case with Chirirbandar police station accusing Shahadat Ali. Police later arrested the accused.
In Satkhira, four accused yesterday appeared before a court to seek bail but the court sent them to jail, rejecting their bail prayer in the sensational case for acid throwing after gang rape.
Judge Md Obaidus Sobhan of the district and session judge's court passed the order after hearing both the sides, reports our correspondent.
The accused are Rabiul Islam of village Gazipur, Faruk Hossain of village Alipur and Mujibur Rahman and Mostafizur Rahman of village Chhanka in Sadar upazila.
The accused allegedly abducted a housewife from her house at Gazipur village at about 9pm on July 15 last year.
They took her to a nearby jute field, raped her and threw acid into her reproductive organ.
Villagers rescued and admitted her to Satkhira Sadar hospital in critical condition on the same night. Later, she was shifted to Acid Survivors Foundation's hospital at Dhaka.
Victim's mother Ramisa Bibi of village Barokhamar in Sadar upazila filed a case with Sadar PS against the accused under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
