RU Bangla students 'boycott' exam

Only eight out of total 83 students of Bangla department at Rajshahi University (RU) took part in their third year final examination under 2007-08 academic session on Saturday allegedly as the departmental chairman did not entertain the students' request.
Sources said, the students of the department had requested the departmental chairman not to take the final examination (course no 302) on Saturday as the mother of a fellow student died on Friday.
The students did not turn up for examination as the chairman did not change the schedule despite a written application to the chairman signed by 78 students, sources said.
“We had discussed the matter as well changing of the examination date along with other teachers of the department and they expressed solidarity with us,” said a student.
The students called upon the authorities to announce a fresh examination date.
Contacted, department chairman Shafikunnabi Samadi said he would look into the matter.
"We decided to take the examination as per schedule to cut the existing session jam at the department," he said.
