Trader shot in city

A retail trader suffered critical wounds after being shot in the chest by unknown criminals at Sayedabad in the city yesterday.
Mohammad Mamun Dhali, son of Mohammad Shaidullah of the area, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He used to sell betel-leaf and cigarettes in Sayedabad.
Family sources said Mamun was shot for extortion. A local gang led by Sumon has been demanding money from Mamun since he bought two kathas of land a few years back, they alleged.
Inspector Oboni Shankar Kor of Jatrabari Police Station suspected that the incident happened for previous enmity over land.
