Call for wider use of Guti urea to boost crop yields
Agriculture Adviser Dr CS Karim yesterday underscored the need for wider use of Guti urea in farmlands in order to increase crop production.
This granular urea technology is cost-effective and environmental-friendly, he said.
Guti urea does not wash away by water currents or its gas cannot mix into the air as the urea granules are placed deep into the soil, the adviser said and called for promoting the use of Guti urea in order to boost crop production.
The adviser was speaking at a workshop on 'Media Campaign for Guti Urea Promotion' at the conference room of Agricultural Information Service (AIS) in the city.
Shykh Seraj, director and head of News, channel i, presented the keynote paper at the workshop jointly organised by the AIS and IFDC.
USAID Mission Director Dennis Rollins said the USAID has provided a fund of Tk 5.71 crore for the implementation of Guti urea technology in 18 upazilas of 14 districts.
The government is also allocating funds for a three-year Guti urea technology project covering 150 upazilas of 34 districts.
Shamsul Alam, director general of Directorate of Agriculture Extension (DAE), chaired the workshop.
