2 muggers hurt in gunfight

Two alleged muggers were injured in a 'shootout' with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at the city's Kamalapur early yesterday.
The injured Ashik, 18, and Sunny, 20, were arrested two months ago in charge of mugging but were later released on bail.
A patrol team chased the gang around 3:50am when they were mugging a pedestrian at gunpoint, Syed Raqibul Hasan, deputy director of Rab-3 told The Daily Star.
Sensing their presence, the criminals opened fire at the elite force members, prompting them to retaliate. At one stage, the gang fled leaving behind two of their bullet-hit cohorts.
Ashik received a bullet on his right leg while Sani injured his left leg. They were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) following the incident.
Rab recovered two knives and four rounds of bullets from their possession.
