Taher trial illegal
HC says Zia masterminded cold-blooded murder of Taher (March 23, 2011)
We expected this kind of verdict. But this verdict has wider consequences. In Bangladesh, killing or fake trial is an on-going phenomenon. High Court now should find out whether any other killing or fake trial has been or is going on. Justice should be done to all the people who have been the victims of injustice now or before. Laws of the country should be equally applicable to all citizens.
What an irony of fate! Both are dead.... such is the judicial system. The man is found not guilty after more than two decades! What good would it do now? It is nothing but propaganda of the current administration.
Justice has been done to Col. Taher. Now we want to do justice to 40,000 freedom fighters who were killed by the Rakhkhi Bahini and the persons behind the killing. No killing should go unpunished irrespective whoever does it.
Since the independence, thousands of innocent general people, freedom fighters, soldiers, political rivals and many more had been killed. Therefore, time has come to review all those killings.
Finally, history is catching up with Ziaur Rahman and exposing him for the collaborator he really was.
This Awami League administration has no guts to do anything. They can't even prosecute the war criminals.
The verdict delivered by the High Court Division is historic.

Something illegal does not necessarily mean bad, something legal does not necessarily mean good. Nothing to say about this judgment.

Everything is possible in this country. Another judge may declare this verdict illegal. What will we do then? It is not unlikely that this government will make Zia the murderer of Khaled Musharraf although Zia was then arrested and Taher was believed to be behind the killing of Musharraf to free Zia.
The execution of Col Taher is one of the sensitive issues in the history of Bangladesh. This illegal trial should not be tolerated in order to establish law and order
The trial was a farce from the beginning. It was a military affair and the conventional court does not have any jurisdiction on this.
We appreciate and respect the verdict of the HC.
This political judgment by the partisan Judges may have far reaching consequences on the image and power of HC. More truth will come out about the parties involved in this entire trial process. Only time will say.
Our future generation will now rightly learn to salute the true patriots and hate the murderers.
Real truth has been exposed through the judgment.
