From hell to fresh air
Victim of inhuman torture by the employer in Khulna city for the last six months, a nine-year-old domestic help has at last managed to flee the ordeal.
On Thursday noon, Baby alias Bulu, a domestic help at the house of area manager of a tobacco company, escaped from the house and went to Sonadanga police station to get rid of inhuman physical torture perpetrated allegedly by his wife.
The woman tortured me off and on for the last six months. She used to beat me with sticks and electric wire. Besides, I was never given food to my heart's content," the tormented minor girl told police with tears rolling down her eyes.
After police handed over the girl to her mother Raushan Ara at 8:30pm on Friday, they left Khulna.
Baby's father Abdul Kalam lives at Ilisha village in Chakoria upazila of Cox's Bazar district.
A general diary (GD) was filed when Baby was handed over to her mother.
"I am a very poor woman. I am too afraid to file a case about torture on my minor daughter. Police should have brought the accused to the police station for interrogation. But they did not do it," Raushan Ara said with a heavy heart.
Asked about the matter, Sonadanga police station officer-in-charge KM Shawkat Hossain said, "It is a kind of forced child labour and flagrant violation of human rights. Police will file a case in this connection and conduct investigation on the basis of evidence and statement of the tormented girl,"
Neither the accused nor his wife could be contacted over phone despite several attempts for their comment about the allegations of torture on their domestic help Baby.
