Qatar labour minister due tomorrow
Qatar's Labour and Social Affairs Minister Sultan Bin Hasan al-Dhabit Al-Dosari arrives in Dhaka tomorrow to sign an additional protocol, which will boost the Bangladeshi workers' employment and protect their interests there.
Sultan Bin Hasan will hold bilateral meeting with Adviser for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, which will culminate in the signing of the protocol.
The Qatari minister will also visit a technical training centre in Dhaka and get to know availability of workers during his two-day visit, a high official of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment told The Daily Star yesterday.
There is already an agreement on overseas employment between Qatar and Bangladesh signed in 1988, which has option of meeting once in two years, but the additional protocol will provide opportunity for bilateral meeting to discuss manpower issues twice a year.
“Presently, there are over 1 lakh Bangladeshi workers in Qatar and there is no major concern over workers' issues, the official said.
