House owner killed, robber hurt in gunfight with Rab

Robbers killed a house owner in Moulvibazar while a member of a gang was injured in gunfight with Rab in Narayanganj yesterday.
An elderly house owner was killed by a gang as he tried to resist them during a robbery at Akua village in Rajnagar upazila of Moulvibazar yesterday, reports our correspondent.
Police said a gang of 10-12 entered the house of Firoz Khan, 85, by breaking open the door at 3:00am.
They fired shot in the air as Firoz and his son Belal Hossain Khan, 45, raised a hue and cry sensing their presence.
The robbers, at one stage, stabbed Firoz, leaving him dead on the spot.
In Narayanganj, a bullet-hit robber was held yesterday after a gunfight with Rab at Kadamtali Sakin in Siddhirganj upazila, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Moslem, 35, son of Mokbul Hossain alias Mongol Kosai of Nimaikashari area. Being tipped-off, a team of Rab-11 raided the area where a gang of robbers were preparing to commit robbery at about 1:00am. Sensing the presence of Rab, the criminals fired gunshots, which prompted the elite force to fire back.
At one stage, Moslem was caught in injured condition while other accomplices fled away. A pistol with bullets, a grill cutter and a Chinese axe were recovered from the spot.
In Narsingdi, robbers looted gold ornaments and cash from a jewellery shop at Shaheb Protab Bazaar on the outskirts of the district town early Monday. Police said, breaking open the shutter of the shop owned by Tapon Karmaker, a gang of robbers numbering 7/8 looted 22 tolas of gold ornaments, 40 tolas of silver ornaments and cash Tk 72,500 tying up the night guard at gunpoint at about 3:00am.
In Madaripur, a gang of armed robbers numbering 10/12 swooped on the house of Hemayet Ali Khan of Baghria village in Kalkini upazila Saturday early hours.
Later, they kept the house members hostage at gunpoint and looted four tolas of gold ornaments, six mobile phone sets, three chargers, one video camera and other valuables worth Tk 5 lakh. House owner Hemayet Ali Khan, 60, and his wife Aleya Begum, 50, were injured by the gang when they tried to resist them.
