Shah Alam gets bail in six cases

The High Court yesterday granted anticipatory bail for two months to Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan alias Shah Alam in six separate criminal cases.
One of the cases had been filed on corruption charge, and others on charges of illegal earth-filling and stealing soil, Deputy Attorney General Zahid Sarwar Kajal said.
A division bench comprising Justice Md Shamsul Huda and Justice Abu Bakar Siddiquee granted the bail following separate petitions by the Bashundhara chief.
It also issued separate rules upon the government to explain why Shah Alam should not be granted regular bail in the cases.
The cases were filed with Keraniganj, Badda and Motijheel police stations in Dhaka and Kaliakoir Police Station in Gazipur on different dates between 2007 and 2010.
The Bashundhara boss yesterday appeared before the HC bench, seeking bail in the cases. He filed six separate bail petitions on February 20.
Advocate Anisul Huq and advocate Ahsanul Karim appeared for Shah Alam.
