35 'accused' honoured
The 35 "accused" in 'Agartala Conspiracy Case' were honoured yesterday in recognition of their contribution to set the country free from the Pakistani occupational forces.
Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall of Dhaka University (DU) conferred the accolades to the accused with crests at a programme marking the 42nd death anniversary of Zahurul Haque at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, DU. Ten of the recipients are still alive while 25 have got posthumous accolades. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, main accused in the case, was posthumously conferred the accolade.
Deputy Speaker Shawkat Ali, hall provost Dr Abu Mohammad Delwar Hossain and AB Md Khurshid, 18th "accused" of the case spoke at the event.
Presided over by DU Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, it was also attended by Abul Kalam Azad MP, DU Pro-VC Harunur Rashid, and relative of Sergeant Zahurul Haque Naznin Haque Mimi.
