Alim Jute Mill layoff extended
The government yesterday extended the period of layoff of state owned Alim Jute Mill for the fifth time by one month more.
Police dispersed the workers charging batons when they brought out a procession in the morning protesting extension of layoff.
CBA Leader Abdus Salam said the workers would go for road and rail blockade programme from January 7 if their demand for reopening of the mill is not fulfilled by January 6.
Workers of Platinum Jubilee Jute Mill also launched a work stoppage programme on the day demanding payment of their arrears.
Besides, workers of Crescent Jute Mill who quit their jobs under Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) observed a seat-in programme from 9 am to 3 pm demanding payment of their arrears.
