Ex-BNP MP Monju sued for murder
A murder case was filed against former BNP lawmaker Mojibur Rahman Monju with a court in Kishoreganj yesterday.
Azima Khatun, wife of Fazlu Mia of Shajatpur village in Bajitpur upazila, filed the case with the court of Judiciary Magistrate Abu Taher Md Sayeed accusing Monju, his brother Dalhousi and 12 others.
The complainant in her case stated that Monju and his brother Dalhousi along others severely beat her son Zia at a field at Shahajatpur village in the upazila on June 12, 2002. Zia died on the following day. Zia was a Monju's political rival, she also alleged. Monju was elected from Kishoreganj-6 constituency (Nikle-Bajitpur) in the last parliamentary election.
In the complaint, Azima said she could not file the murder case during the tenure of the last four-party alliance government fearing retaliation as Monju was an influential lawmaker of the alliance government.
Monju was arrested earlier in the sensational case for murder of Union Pparishad chairman Taher Uddin Tahu murder case, filed with Bajitpur police station. The former BNP lawmaker is also shown arrested in an extortion case. Monju is now in Kishoreganj jail.
