Grassroots leaders want Mohiuddin no longer
Grassroots leaders of Chittagong city Awami League (AL) yesterday demanded the unit be freed from its President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and General Secretary Kazi Inamul Hoque Danu.
Presidents and secretaries of most of the 43 organisational wards of Chittagong city made the demand at a press conference at Chittagong Press Club (CPC). Nurul Alam, general secretary mid-southern Halishahar ward, read out a written statement there.
The ward leaders alleged that the unit is now in complete disarray and it has become on the verge of destruction due to 'autocratic activities' of Mohiuddin and Danu.
They blamed Mohiuddin for his autocratic activities, rude behaviour, hasty decisions, and attitude to discount devoted leaders, which raise questions among people about the party.
Mohiuddin and Danu were also criticised for running in the last parliamentary election against the party decision. The two ordered many grassroots leaders for working against party-nominated Nurul Islam during the election, said the ward leaders.
Patharghata ward President Jalal Uddin Iqbal, Halishahar Munirnagar ward General Secretary Md Hossain Murad, and Halishahar ward President Harun Ur Rashid also spoke.
The speakers alleged that Mohiuddin on his own expelled several presidents and secretaries of different ward committees violating the party constitution.
